Winter planting 2024 to start soon
By Stephen Hill
It’s that time of year again, spades are at the ready, winter 24/25 delivery for the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest (PSDCF) is imminent and we’re at phase 2 internal consultation for scheme delivery within the city.
Spoilers for the soon to be released PSDCF end of year report, but thanks to the collaborative working across PCC, partner organisations, and residents, last season we were able to deliver 4,451 trees over 34 individual schemes within the city, bringing the total to date up to 16,447 trees!
By building on existing relationships and working in collaboration with yourselves, this unprecedented level of investment in tree planting and nature recovery provides us with a fantastic opportunity to continue achieving multiple benefits across South Devon. Throughout the last 3 years we have been discussing these opportunities with each of you, and finding out how the PSDCF can benefit the work you do, such as:
Highways - preventing problematic parking on the roadside verges and improving end user experience of using the highway estate,
Street Services - enhancing green spaces throughout the city and provision of job opportunities
Building Resilience In Communities – contributing to the sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) projects,
Green Communities – Facilitating project delivery both in terms of nature recovery and community engagement targets,
Plymouth Natural Grid – supporting project delivery,
Local Nature Recovery Strategy - synergies with the LNRS,
South Hams/West Devon – facilitating woodland creation across multiple sites throughout SH/WD,
Partners (Woodland Trust, National Trust, Plymouth Tree Partnership) – all receiving support for projects,
Plymouth Community Homes – tree planting at city centre housing sites,
This is just a snapshot - there are many more opportunities, benefits, and collaborations to continue realising and building upon… Get your spades ready.
