About Us
Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest (PSDCF) has been working with partners and communities to plant trees and create woodland since August 2021. PSDCF delivers DEFRA’s Trees for Climate Fund across South Devon, enabling tree planting schemes from three trees to tens of thousands.
The project is working towards a goal of 500 hectares of woodland creation, that’s 700 football pitches!
We are contributing to the England’s Community Forests’ goal of increasing canopy cover across England to combat climate change, encourage carbon capture, prevent flooding and increase biodiversity.
What are Community Forests?
Unlike traditional forests, community forests are not geographically restricted to one area. They are a growing mosaic of trees and forests, linking existing woodlands and habitats, weaving through urban areas and wrapping around our communities.
Our Partners
This is a partnership project made possible by Plymouth City Council (Lead Partner), National Trust, Woodland Trust, Dartmoor National Park Authority, Devon County Council and South Hams and West Devon District and Borough Councils. Together we are bringing trees across the South of Devon and inviting as many people as possible to join us!
The project is funded by England Community Forest’s ‘Trees for Climate’ programme, supported by the Department of Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs’ (DEFRA) £640m ‘Nature for Climate’ Fund.”
Our Vision
Equity and Inclusion
Creating an accessible woodland network connecting the people and places of Plymouth and South Devon.
Resilience
Creating a sustainable biodiverse network of trees that improve health and wellbeing of communities and nature.
Innovation
Creating a valuable woodland network that supports an enterprising culture through jobs, skills development and volunteering.
The Community Forest Plan
Every Community Forest in England will have a Forest plan in place by March 2025. For newer forests like us that means developing a new plan.
Community Forest plans set out our goals, and how we hope to achieve them over the next 25 years. The PSDCF plan will advise and guide our work to ensure we plant woodlands in the right places. The Forest Plan is going into the public consultation stage to include the voices of landowners, businesses, residents, community groups, councils and other stakeholders.
We can all have a voice in what the Community Forest looks like! Follow us to keep up to date with progress of the plan or get in touch for more information.
