Community Tree Nursery
The Community Tree Nursery (CTN) is a Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest project based at Poole Farm, a community farm nestled at the centre of Derriford Community Park. The CTN is growing up to 7,000 young trees every two years for the Community Forest. The nursery engages and upskills the local community through volunteering and events.
The CTN is home to a polytunnel, raised tables for growing cellular seeds and troughs for stratifying. We aim to become carbon neutral by 2030. The accessible design of the nursery means that everyone can be involved and learn about tree care!
Nurture nature with us
The nursery is looked after by a small number of staff and a group of weekly volunteers. The work involved varies seasonally but can include anything from seed collection, tree planting, weeding, pruning, creating new beds, and more.
Learning to nurture and care for saplings is rewarding for all.
Volunteer sign up
At the CTN, we are inspiring dedicated woodland citizens that grow with the forest and protecting future generations of trees, people, and wildlife. If you would like to be part of the effort, we would love to hear from you.
